Evaporative Cooler Maintenance

Today, a short article about evaporative cooler maintenance.

The weather is getting warm and it’s time for some evaporative cooler maintenance.

First I removed the evaporative pad holders and installed new aspen pads.

Next I lifted the oil cup caps on the pillow bearings and filled them with 30W non-detergent oil.

I checked the blower belt and adjusted the tension. Tension should be set so that the belt deflects about 1″ with medium finger pressure halfway between the two pulleys.

The bottom of the cooler was full of rust and scale. I scraped it as clean as I could with a putty knife. I applied an asphalt based cooler sealer to the water pan. I also checked the float operation.

Finally, I reinstalled the cooler pads and placed the system back in operation.
